About This Song:

Two

[Lyrics]

There's a question inside of me

Burning its way to the outside

Brimming with simplicity

I complacently bend to its whim

There's a sorrow as I wonder

Why can't we all just get along?

Two figures who respectively

Shaped aspects of my life and decisions

Helped me grow towards maturity

Gave me aid when I could not ask for it

And I can't understand why people hate

Why they bother holding on to old convictions?

Hypocritical, I know, but I still wonder...

Why can't we just ignore these feelings and get along?

Great minds often think alike

Great hearts often bleed

But spite still addles the minds of the many

Leaves me with a broken heart

Most people can't even grasp modesty,

Yet still find the time

To see others with animosity

I hate choosing sides

Two hearts, size is immeasurable

Yet still holds room for disdain

Feels worthless to struggle

Left to stare at the stain

Submit to silence, I wonder why

Seems like no one knows anymore how to get along

Great minds often think alike

Great hearts often bleed

But spite still addles the minds of the many

Leaves me with a broken heart

I find the hold is weakening

Perhaps it's best to let go

Answers have only eluded me,

Been drowning in a sea of woe0

Most people can't even grasp modesty,

Yet still find the time

To view others with animosity

I hate chasing time

Oh, you two

Oh...

Two is about a pair of close friends from my teenage years and onward who have absolutely zero ability to get along. It's in a similar vein as Use, but isn't about any of the same people, nor is it about a single spat. Both of these people have been positively influential in my life at different times but neither one can so much as grin and bare the other. This is my subsequent reaction to the situation, and we'll leave it at that.

Musically, this was originally written as a solo piano piece. It was then expanded upon and re-worked into this style, and the only piece left of the original track is at the very end, which lends to a nice outro, in my opinion. I'm very happy with both versions of it as they exist and I hope you enjoy the song!
