I think this is my favourite song on this album. Musically, it's meant to be able to be played directly off of The Descent. The structure is nearly the same, and the key is the same. In fact, most of this album stays in one key.
Some time after the events of The Descent, the protagonist is reflecting on the moments that lead up to where they are now, and happily reveling in a perfect moment that's occurring.
About This Song:
The Descent
[Lyrics]
You'd never get a complaint from me
If everything just stayed the same
This moment in time where I'm feeling
So relieved and just so free
It's kinda like christ in a manger
Not a sign of things to come
But here I am a perfect stranger
Standing in the snow beneath the stars
Why can't we keep this?
This moment's perfect
Why can't I have this?
If time could just slow down
How did I earn this?
After a life so hollow
Slow down
Oooh
Oooh
It's an eclipse
It takes my breath away.
Before I slipped, and now
I've had a lapse
And I can see again
I've gotta tell myself
I'm not alone
And this is not the end
It might be easier said than done
But it's how you do it, in the end.
Why can't we keep this?
This moment's perfect
Why can't I have this?
If time could just slow down
How did I earn this?
After a life so hollow
Slow down
Why can't we keep this?
This moment's perfect
Why can't I have this?
If time could just slow down
How did I earn this?
After a life so hollow
Slow down
Oooh
Oooh
