About This Song:
Dandelion
[Lyrics]
Just like a dandelion swaying in the breeze
I'm kind of always here, but you tend not to see
Colour myself brightly but it singles me out
You label me a parasite, and then you cut me down
If I live long enough to age
My seeds will float like snow
Concrete, or grass, they don't discriminate
Because they don't know how
There are words that I don't know
My conscience is a silent protagonist in this show
Yellow, white, does it matter?
Does it matter, it shouldn't matter...
Some like to dismember us,
Forgetting or affirming that we bleed
No matter how brightly we shine,
They say we're not flowers, but weeds
Watch it fade from white to black, will it sate their curiousity?
Will it ever be enough, will it ever let me be?
Live amongst the blades of grass until we sprout eventually
Try not to fear the blades of steel, we'll be cut down inevitibly
Some things we know will never change
Some people find a reason just to hate
Hide deep beneath the winter's blanket,
It's here I wish that I could stay
There are words that I don't know
My used heart is a primal deuteragonist in this show
Yellow, white, does it matter?
Does it matter, it shouldn't matter,
It shouldn't matter
Why does it matter?
Ohh
Dandelion is a song about a lack of equality from the perspective of discriminated peoples. About having to live in fear for being born the way you were, and deal with the scorn and hatred of others who don't even know you, just because they can't justify the way your brain and body work or are in their narrow little scope of view. It is an issue that deeply bothers me on a multitude of levels and a subject that I am bitter about in our modern society. At least there's been a lot of progress in the acceptance of equality (the fact that I even have to say that speaks volumes about how ignorant many people are) as a societal whole in the last decade.
Musically, Dandelion is kept very simple. This marks a point where the album begins to quiet down a little. All of the background ambience is actually provided by my vocals / noises I was able to make in some way or another. I hope you enjoy the track.
