About This Song:

Waking Up

[Lyrics]

Hey, brother

I can only hope this message reaches you in time

To say what's on my mind

How're you doin'?

I hope you've faced your inner demons

And surpressed them with an iron fist,

And fire in your eyes

And I hope that things are well for you

And even when they're not

I hope that better friends surround you

Than this dumbstruck, vacant lot

That's not a jab at you or I,

You'll find I'm honest

As I've ever been awry

But that's not why I'm writing you,

A brother down

Signed sincerely,

Brother Out

Don't take that literally, it's just a play on words

I know I sound a bit absurd,

But truth be told,

All things concerned,

It's something like six-thirty in the morning,

As I'm writing this,

I guess I've not yet been to sleep

Although that's easy to believe

I guess I find it kinda funny

And I find it kinda sad

Oh wait, wrong lyrics,

That was Mad World ("What the hell is Mad World?")

So much can hide behind a laugh,

It's not so much funny as it's sad

Down to the bottom of the page,

Guess getting lazy comes with age

A brother down, though not quite out,

Is what this letter's all about

I hope you're well, just miss the days,

At six A.M. when I'm awake.

Yeah, yeah

Yeah

Yeah

Oh, oh...

This song is a direct letter to a friend of mine. One of my best friends from high school, who had moved to Alberta for work after high school. Even though I wrote this way before he moved back, by the time I had recorded it and put the album out, he had since moved back. I'm still fond of the song. It seems kinda playful to me, and musically, it was fun to write.

Hope you enjoy!
